 Applications

CIMS applied research results in developments in many end use markets.

  • Environmental and pollution monitoring.
  • Neonatal care.
  • Domiciliary care.
  • Semiconductor materials.
  • Healthcare Paints and coatings.
  • Industrial processing.
  • Automotive.
  • Aerospace.
  • Waste management.
  • Electrical generation.
  • Electrical transmission.
  • Electrical usage.

 Sensing Expertise

CIMS has extensive experience in monitoring a wide range of parameters including;

  • Temperature
  • Pressure
  • Liquid flow, level, condition
  • Movement and activity
  • pH
  • Electrical current and voltage
  • Light
  • Colour
  • Sound
  • Radio frequency
  • Wear and corrosion
  • Battery condition

In addition to more conventional approaches, CIMS has extensive experience of optical fibre sensors, remote CCTV scanning, acoustic and radiofrequency detectors.

Optical fibre sensors and remote monitoring systems based upon the methodology of chromatic sensing are deployed on many demonstrator projects.

CHROMATIC SENSING is a technique patented worldwide by the University of Liverpool and forms the corner stone of the intelligent monitoring approaches as practised by CIMS.

 Products under development

A range of different sensors is currently being researched and includes:

  • Hybrid optical current transformer.
  • Optoacoustic measurements.
  • Fluid level, flow and quality.
  • Atmospheric born particulate sizing and concentration.
  • Optical fibre temperature sensor.
  • Contamination of various environments.
  • Remote temperature and stress monitoring.
  • Linear and rotating displacement measurements.
